The West Park Neighborhood Association is dedicated to preserving and securing our neighborhood’s integrity and history, utilizing the many talents and ideas of our resident, ultimately creating a safe and desirable community for those who have chosen to make the neighborhood of West Park their home.

BOARD MEETING

11-13-10

 

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order @ 8:12 a.m. @ Taggarts Ice Cream by President Jim Woofter.   Ten members and three guests were in attendance.

 

MINUTES

Minutes from the 10/10/10 meeting were reviewed.  Following a correction from C. Breckbill to C. Landis under “Miscellaneous” a motion was made by D. Woofter and seconded by E. Schott to accept the minutes; the motion passed.

 

 FINANCIAL REPORT

Checks were written for the following: $1,678.00 to Furbay Electric for sensor lights and bulbs, $450.45 to Rice’s Nursery for the park flower bed plants and mulch, $139.55 to D. Woofter for dinner supplies, $100.00 to Calvary Presbyterian for the use of the hall and $100.00 to the Canton Parks System for Christmas lighting.  Twenty-one households have paid dues for 2011.  The current balance in the checking account is $668431.  A motion was made by C. Breckbill and seconded by E. Schottt to accept the financial report as presented; the motion passed. 

 

OLD BUSINESS

  Block Captains The status remains the same with two vacancies needing to be filled. No response from the newsletter appeal. 

  Breakfast with Santa Ten reservations have been received to date.

 

NEW BUSINESS

  2011 Grant L Barnes reported that information will be available @ the December Leadership Meeting.  The total 2011 Grant money available from the Stark Community Foundation is $6000.00.  Applications are due 1/24/11.  Board members are asked to submit new ideas/projects in addition to those that renew annually.  Some suggestions included contracting with an electrician to install sensor security lights, leaf vacuuming project and Polar Express program.  Be prepared to submit other ideas at the 1/8/11 Board Meeting.

  Neighborhood Planning Commission As a result of the Community Building Partnership report regarding WPNA, Marilyn Thomas Jones will pursue having a certified city planner aid in developing a Neighborhood Planning Commission.

  Newsletter An additional newsletter will be published in January 2011 to include the 2011 Calendar as well as city ordinances regarding leaf clean-up and dog clean-up as there seems to have been some problems in these areas.

  New Board Member Due to her interest and consistent attendance @ Board Meetings, a motion was made by J. Woofter and seconded by D. Angeli that C. Landis become a Board Member; the motion passed.

 

MISCELLANEOUS US flags were taken down this week.  Christmas wreath will be hung following a meeting @ Woofters’ on Tuesday 11/16/10 to restore & prepare the wreaths.

   A request was received from the Casars’ for info regarding WPNA to be distributed at a meeting of several realtors to be held @ their home.  A further suggestion was made that WPNA info be forwarded to all realtors having listings in West Park.

   Tina Zenedes reported that Grant money is available to WPNA for an art project in the form of neighborhood markers which would define West Park.  These markers would be placed on Fulton and Monument Roads as the entry areas of  WPNA.  D. Angeli has been hired as the artist. There is also a project forthcoming to clean the yard and shrubbery at a vacant house located @ 1313-13th St NW.

 

   A concern was raised about the future of both the vacant Kanam building and the J. Serra building, both located on Fulton Road.  Councilman G. Hawk advised that he will keep WPNA apprised of status these properties.

  

NEXT MEETING: The next scheduled WPNA meeting will be Saturday, January 8, 2011 @ Taggarts Ice Cream beginning @ 8:00 a.m. There being no further business the meting adjourned @ 9:15 a.m.
